(EnviroNews Utah) — Salt Lake City — Dr. Brian Moench, MD and Founder of the Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment lectures on how air pollution damages genes, predisposes children to many diseases, while lowering IQ points at the Rio Tinto/Kennecott Lawsuit Press Conference.

The Utah Physicians For a Healthy Environment, Utah Mom’s For Clean Air, and WildEarth Guardians announced the filing of a joint lawsuit against Kennecott Utah Copper at the event. The suit claims that Kennecott is responsible for a disproportionate amount of Utah’s dangerous air pollution and has consistently violated their pollution permits as well as EPA standards. Panelists at the event also cited numerous externalities such as massive air pollution related medical expenses as a byproduct of Kennecott Utah Copper’s operations.

This segment was taped at the Rio Tinto/Kennecott Lawsuit Press Conference at the Salt Lake City Library, December 19, 2011.
