Video Beef: Sen. Mark Kelly: ‘Elon Musk Kinda Turned out to Be an Asshole… This is gonna be my last trip in this [Tesla] car’
(EnviroNews Politics Desk) — Washington, D.C. — Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) is a retired U.S. Navy Captain a former space shuttle astronaut, and the senior senator for Arizona — a seat which he has held since 2020. But last week, tech titan and Tesla CEO Elon Musk called Kelly a “traitor” after the Senator announced he had visited Ukraine over the weekend.
On March 14, 2025 in a short video posted on Musk’s own social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Kelly fired back, calling Musk and outright “asshole” and pledging to dump his own Tesla, seen parked behind him in the video with the nation’s capitol in the backdrop.
I bought a Tesla because it was fast like a rocket ship. But now every time I drive it, I feel like a rolling billboard for a man dismantling our government and hurting people. So Tesla, you’re fired!

Senator Mark Kelly to Viewers on X: Hey folks, it’s Mark Kelly. I’m here in Washington, driving to work for the last time in my Tesla. When I bought this thing, I didn’t think it was going to become a political issue.
Every time I get in this car in the last 60 days or so, it reminds me of just how much damage Elon Musk and Donald Trump [are] doing to our country. Talking about slashing Social Security, cutting healthcare benefits for poor people, for seniors; it’s one bad thing after the next.
He’s firing veterans. I’m a veteran, so I have a really hard time driving around in this thing. So, I think it’s time for an upgrade today.
So, this is going to be my last trip in this car. There are some things I really liked about it. There are things I didn’t like about it. But that doesn’t matter. What matters is doing the right thing; I think it’s time to get rid of it.
Elon Musk kinda turned out to be an asshole, and I don’t want to be driving a car built and designed by an asshole. So, [I’m] looking forward to my new ride.
