Yet Another Nighttime Burn-off at Good Ol’ Holly Refinery – Holly Nabbed Again by Neighborhood Citizen Journalists
(EnviroNews Utah via Community Watch Blog) – Holly Frontier aka Holly Refinery has come under scrutiny as of late — The reason: the company’s proposed operational and pollution expansion. Many local observers claim that Holly has consistently been the most irresponsible operator on “Refinery Row” in South Davis County.
Over the years EnviroNews Utah has captured an array of what have been deemed as “emergency bypasses”, or “burn-offs” where for one reason or another they dump loads of thick black, white, or other colored substances into the air shed.
Holly has been fined several times in the recent past, and seems content to utilize the common industrial technique of paying the fine, rolling over, and continuing with business as usual. The Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment (UPHE) stated recently at a press conference on Capitol Hill that they would likely sue the oil refiner if the proposed expansion is approved.
The dump to this stack took place on Feb 8th, 2013 commencing at approximately 8 PM and continuing for about a half an hour.
