(EnviroNews Utah) – On a chilly day in Salt Lake City Utah, demonstators gathered in protest of Governor Gary R. Herbert’s energy summit.  Amongst the multitude of speakers was Dr. Claron D. Aldridge of the Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment who gave an energetic sermon-like speech in regards to Utah’s dangerous air pollution problem.

Utah had been experiencing a string of “RED AIR” days where particulate matter in the 2.5 micron range (PM 2.5) had been into the 90’s and had put Utah, once again, at the top of the most air polluted cities in America.  Dr. Aldridge drove home a point that many Utah activists have been hearing over and over for the last couple of years.  The point:  4-8% of all deaths in the state of Utah are now attributed to repeated exposure to Utah’s dangerous red air days, and that life long citizens of the Wasatch Front have an average of 2 years shaved off of their lifespan due to repeated exposure to these incredible particulate pollution spikes.

  1. Wow. I feel bad ofr the people down in Utah who have to breath that stuff all day and nothing they can do about it. I used to live in LA, and I remember on bad days that it really caused problems for a lot of senstive people.
