Cris Cowley, MD and former President of the Utah Medical Association lectures on exactly how elevated levels of air pollution cause heart attacks and strokes at the Rio Tinto/Kennecott Lawsuit Press Conference. The Utah Physicians For a Healthy Environment, the Utah Mom’s For Clean Air, and the WildEarth Guardians announced the filing of a joint lawsuit against Kennecott Utah Copper at the event. The suit claims that Kennecott is responsible for a disproportionate amount of Utah’s dangerous air pollution and has consistently violated their pollution permits as well as EPA standards. Panelist at the event also cited numerous externalities such as massive air pollution related medical expenses as a byproduct of Kennecott Utah Coppers operations.
