Alexa Wagner, a High School Sophmore, Explains the Dangers of Teaching Abstinence Without Teaching Contraception in Utah Sex Ed Classes

(EnviroNews Utah) – Furious with the plethora of controversial bills that passed in this year’s session in the Utah State Legislature, a crowd of angered protestors from all walks of life assembled on Capitol Hill at the Rally to Restore Sanity to Government.

Much of this session’s legislation has been so contrary to public opinion polls that it took a sophomore from Highland Highschool to come to the Capitol in an effort to talk some sense into the seemingly out of touch legislature.

Alexa Wagner took the podium and discussed the inevitable harm of eliminating the teaching of contraception from sex-ed classes. According to Wagner, teenagers have a natural tendency to rebel, henceforth, if they are not taught about the protections of contraception, more STD’s and teen pregnancies will surely be the result.

Many protestors held signs that read “Leave Sex Ed Alone” and shouted and booed in hope that the legislative body would hear their disgruntlement.

Utah’s law attacking sex-ed curriculum seems to be the latest in a nationwide far-right trend to eliminate programs that promote the use of contraception.
